Our 56th Year
Welcome to the new web site for City of Tonawanda finest Boy Scout Troop, Troop 600! Formed in 1956, Troop 600 is a small troop with a range of 12 to 20 active boy scouts. Meetings are held every Monday evening (regular meetings are not held during the summer months) at Salem United Church of Christ, 114 Morgan St, Tonawanda, New York. Usually the boys and adult leaders head off into the great outdoors once a month to hike, camp, or attend a boy scout function at a local Boy Scout Camp. Summers typically find the boys heading to camp for a week to have fun and learn while earning more merit badges. They also have the opportunity to go on an extended trip or hike at Philmont Scout Ranch, located in New Mexico.
Troop 600 is known for their annual Food Drive for the Salvation Army. During the month of November, our Boy Scouts with the help of Cub Scout Pack 925 distrubute over 7000 fliers to every home within the City of Tonawanda limits. Working for the last 32 years, our Troop has now collected over 175,000 pounds of non- perishable food for the local food pantry at the Salvation Army.
The troop is fortunate to lease a permanent camp site of 9 Mile Island. Recently we have construted a building for lean-to winter camping and summer outings.
Past outings have included week long camping at Massawepie Boy Scout summer camp located in the Seneca Waterways at the Adirondack Mountains.A snow weekend at a local Boy Scout camp and the highlight of each summer is a week long camp outing at Camp Schoellkopf. We usually take one weekend trip every month.
